Food systems encompass all the elements (environment, people, inputs, infrastructure, institutions, etc.) and activities relating to food production, processing, distribution, and consumption. Over the last decades, food systems have come to the forefront of the debate on sustainable development. Indeed, food systems are under an unprecedented confluence of pressures and are at the center of global challenges (ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss, resource scarcity, human population growth and climate change) to achieve sustainable food security.
