Support to Livestock
Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase II is the follow up of the previous
Phase I, implemented by CIHEAM Bari and funded by the Syria Recovery Trust Fund
(SRTF). It aims to enhance the economic conditions of livestock breeders and
their households and to improve the food security situation in the Ar-Raqqa
eastern area. The project intends to support livestock breeders organized in
cooperatives, with livestock inputs (concentrated fodder, animal
vaccines and medicines) in a cost-recovery approach. Also, it will provide veterinary
services through 3 clinics and laboratory centres, and 3 mobile
clinics. Moreover, a service of veterinary telemedicine will be set up in
order to enhance the range of the service, and the quality of analysis and
diagnosis. Local technicians will be trained on the main relevant livestock
diseases and related laboratory analysis, based on the revealed needs of the
beneficiaries. These capacity building actions will be done via Remote
Technical Assistance (RTA). Hereafter the trained technicians will
transfer the obtained knowledge to the local communities through seminars in loco and technical
brochures. The project will be implemented in 12 months. Moreover, the project is
designed to set up and assist a new Syrian Agri-Vet Technicians Associations
that is capable of providing service and technical assistance to breeders and
farmers also after project end.

The project aims to build rural communities’
resilience in North East Syria, supporting rural development with an early
recovery strategy perspective. R.A.L.N.E.S. aims to
increase the capacity of involved rural communities n the areas of Raqqa,
Hassakeh, Deir Ezzor and Tabqa by providing agricultural
and livestock inputs and by reinforcing several types of agricultural
and livestock services (crops treatments and other agriculture practices) and
extension services (Early Warning Diseases System) for crops diseases
monitoring and control. Furthermore, the project foresees to empower women by
incentivizing income generating activities in addition to the ones
already empowered previously by the Ra.La. program. Capacity
building for technicians, women and youth is done via Remote Technical Assistance (RTA) which will address the problems
and needs identified through participatory approaches. The trained technicians
will disseminate the RTA topics to farmers and breeders through seminars in
loco and technical brochures.
