The project aims to build rural communities’ resilience in North East Syria, supporting rural development with an early recovery strategy perspective. R.A.L.N.E.S. aims to increase the capacity of involved Local Administrations n the areas of Raqqa, Hassakeh, Deir Ezzor and Tabqa to support their rural communities by providing agricultural and livestock inputs and by reinforcing several types of agricultural and livestock services (crops treatments and other agriculture practices) and extension services (Early Warning Diseases System) for crops diseases monitoring and control. Furthermore, the project foresees to empower women by incentivizing income generating activities in addition to the ones already empowered previously by the Ra.La. program. Capacity building for technicians, local administrations women and youth is done via Remote Technical Assistance (RTA) which will address the problems and needs identified through participatory approaches. The trained technicians will disseminate the RTA topics to farmers and breeders through seminars in loco and technical brochures.

The project Su.Li.N.E.S. is implemented in North East Syria by CIHEAM Bari and funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for a period of 9 months.  The project aims to support the Agriculture and Livestock sector in North East Syria (Governorate of Raqqa and Governorate of Deir-ez-Zor) through strengthening the agriculture and livestock productions of local breeders and herewith contributing to a stabilize their household income and eventually to contribute to improve the livelihood and rural household’s resilience of the local communities. The project is mainly directed to livestock holders, to local veterinarians and technicians, and women. Through its commitments it aims at building resilience of rural communities in North East Syria by improving their food security and livelihood. The project is assisting livestock holders through the distribution of agriculture and livestock inputs and through the activation of veterinary services in a fragile context. Moreover, the project will also assist rural women in improving their knowledge for economic activities. Capacity building for local technicians and women will be done through Remote Technical Assistance (RTA) which will address the problems and needs identified through participatory approaches. Hereafter the trained technicians will disseminate the RTA topics to farmers and breeders through seminars in loco and technical brochures.

Support to Livestock Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate – Phase II is the follow up of the previous Phase I, implemented by CIHEAM Bari and funded by the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF). It aims to enhance the economic conditions of livestock breeders and their households and to improve the food security situation in the Ar-Raqqa eastern area. The project intends to support livestock breeders organized in cooperatives, with livestock inputs (concentrated fodder, animal vaccines and medicines) in a cost-recovery approach. Also, it will provide veterinary services through 3 clinics and laboratory centres, and 3 mobile clinics. Moreover, a service of veterinary telemedicine will be set up in order to enhance the range of the service, and the quality of analysis and diagnosis. Local technicians will be trained on the main relevant livestock diseases and related laboratory analysis, based on the revealed needs of the beneficiaries. These capacity building actions will be done via Remote Technical Assistance (RTA). Hereafter the trained technicians will transfer the obtained knowledge to the local communities through seminars in loco and technical brochures. The project will be implemented in 12 months. Moreover, the project is designed to set up and assist a new Syrian Agri-Vet Technicians Associations that is capable of providing service and technical assistance to breeders and farmers also after project end.
