In the framework of SSR project in Syria, CIHEAM Bari supports Year-1 capacity development under the Seed System Restoration (SSR) component of BLRS by strengthening the foundational scientific and professional competencies of GOSM and GCSAR staff. The training program—delivered primarily through in-room sessions (with select online components)—focuses on core disciplines that underpin resilient, quality-assured seed systems: principles of genetics and classical crop improvement; variety maintenance and characterization; seed science and technology (seed biology, health and quarantine, processing, storage, and quality assurance); and agronomic/seed-production practices across cereal and legume crops. The modules are designed to consolidate academic knowledge, standardize technical language and methods across institutions, and refresh best practices needed to re-establish reliable, nationally led seed production.
